About

I’ve been running barefoot since around 2007, with an increased use of minimalist shoes more recently.

Why ‘Barefoot Heretic’?

Running shoe companies have been telling us since the 70’s that we need their product just to run, despite the fact that humans have been doing so for millennia without all these high-tech features.  Generally speaking, an inference is made that these companies fixed all the inherent flaws in the human foot to allow us to run as nature intended.  This is accepted as conventional wisdom with very little, if any, non-proprietary peer-reviewed studies to prove it.

After running in modern running shoes for a long time and trying the lesser alternative all the way down to bare feet, I decided for myself that less is more.

An extreme (and tongue-in-cheek) way of looking at it is that I’ve decided not to bow at the altar of Nike.  Conventional wisdom and public reaction be damned.
